Question: Someone close to me has left the Church. How should I reach out to them? Answer: For many of us, this can be a challenging question. When people we love leave the Church, we may not always know how to relate to them in certain ways. Are some conversation topics off limits? Are there certain behaviors or decisions we can't support in good conscience? When someone or something is lost, Jesus shows two different attitudes in his parables. One is actively seeking. Parking at St. Bernard Church

Posted on September 10, 2019 in: General News

Parking at St. Bernard Church While overflow parking at a Church is always thought of as a “good problem to have”, we must ask those parking in access lanes to instead park in the two Town of Vernon lots across School Street.   Parking in the access lanes hinders emergency vehicles that must get to the Church if there is an emergency and prevents other parishioners who may have to leave quickly after Mass or during Mass in the event of a personal emergency. We are working to address the overflow parking at St. Bernard with other solutions, but we ask everyone to be respectful and courteous to...

A bunch of parishioners have stopped me after Mass to express surprise that I wasn't down in Washington again, or to ask when my next semester begins. So I thought I'd take a moment to clarify what is going on with my studies. Bishop Cote has directed me to study canon law in addition to my parish duties. The program of studies that I am in is run out of Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.--it is actually the only school in the U.S. that offers this program. The particular program that I am in meets in person during the summer in Washington, D.C., for four summers and utilizes online classes durin...

Pastor's Page - September
Dear Blessed Sacrament Parish Family, I must admit that I wasn’t thrilled when our bulletin editor, Amy, gently reminded me that it was time for my September letter.  How is it possible that the summer months are already in our rear-view mirror?  I don’t recall January and February flying by this quickly!  I think I responded to her with a similar sentiment.  She just smiled and pointed to the calendar.  On a positive note, we now enter a month that is filled with opportunity.  September, for most, represents a time of new beg...
