From Our Business Manager, Brian Kenny

Effective July 1, 2019, St. Bernard and St. Matthew will be canonically and legally merged into a new parish, Blessed Sacrament Parish, with worship sites at St. Bernard and St. Matthew. While yoked for four years, both St. Bernard and St. Matthew kept their finances separate and had separate finance councils. After the merger, finances will be combined into one corporation and we will have one finance council, “Blessed Sacrament Parish Finance Council”. This new finance council will be comprised of members from St. Matthew & St. Bernard and be responsible for financial oversight of the new Blessed Sacrament Parish. All other committees and both preschools will retain their worship site specific names. St. Bernard Cemetery will remain St. Bernard Cemetery.

CHECKS AND DEPOSITS: After July 1st, checks should be made payable to:  Blessed Sacrament Parish

ONLINE GIVING: In early July, a new Online Giving portal will be added to both the St. Bernard and St. Matthew websites.  Due to our merger and combining of finances, we must move to one Online Giving system.  We chose ParishSOFT, the company used by St. Bernard, because it offers a portal that is simple to use with advanced giving features.  Current St. Bernard Online Giving users can keep using the legacy portal or move to the new portal; however, St. Matthew Online Giving users must switch to the new portal in early July but can continue contributing by envelope or check during the transition.  The current Online Giving process for St. Matthew will stop on June 26th including any recurring payments you have previously set up.  During the first week of July, St. Matthew parishioners will be able to sign up on the new portal through the website.  The staff will assist anyone needing help setting up the new system.

OFFERTORY ENVELOPES:  Effective with the Saturday, August 31st collection, envelope users will have received and should begin using the new “BLESSED SACRAMENT PARISH” envelopes for the Offertory and Diocesan second collections.  Please continue to use your current envelopes until August 31st.

ST. MATTHEW ANNUAL & PARISH SECOND COLLECTIONS:  With the introduction of the new Blessed Sacrament Parish envelopes on August 31st, the monthly maintenance collection and the annual fall appeal at St. Matthew will end.  St. Matthew parishioners are asked to prayerfully consider adding the contributions they normally would have made to these two special collections to their ongoing weekly Offertory.

As your Business Manager for the Catholic Community of St. Bernard & St. Matthew for the past four years, it has been my pleasure to work with a very dedicated and professional office staff at both Churches as well as the finance councils and our combined pastoral council. I want to commend everyone for their diligence and hard work in accomplishing this challenging transition to Blessed Sacrament Parish.
