Our New Seminarian Larry Barile Bishop Cote has assigned Larry Barile to St. Bernard and St. Matthew parishes for his summer pastoral work this year. Larry is entering his third year of theology this fall and is awaiting the call for orders for Transitional Deacon in the spring of 2020. This is a wonderful period for Larry as he continues his formation for priestly ministry by assisting our parish families. The Haitian Ministry is sponsoring our annual toy collection for the children of St. Pierre Parish, Ganthier, Haiti. Parishioners of all ages are invited to bring new, unwrapped toys up to the altar during Mass at both St. Matthew and St. Bernard Churches that weekend. St. Bernard Cemetery Survey

St. Bernard Cemetery, located on Kingsbury Avenue on the Tolland/Vernon town line, is the Catholic Cemetery that serves the four parishes of St. Bernard, St. Joseph, St. Luke and St. Matthew Parishes.  This past year the cemetery received a generous donation from the estate of a deceased parishioner. These funds have been used to install a new wrought iron fence and gates around the historic portion of the cemetery, repave the roads and make several other improvements as requested by the donor. Louise Mlodzinski bequeaths over $1,000,000 for St. Bernard Cemetery improvements and maintenance. St. Bernard Cemetery, which serves the area Catholic communities of St. Matthew, St. Luke, St. Joseph, St. Maurice, Sacred Heart and St. Bernard, will be undertaking major improvements because of a gift of over $1,000,000 to St. Bernard Cemetery by Louise Mlodzinski who passed away July 5, 2015 at the age of 99.  Disbursement of the gift was recently approved by the Probate Court. We are looking for parishioners who may be interested in exploring an opportunity for prison ministry in the Enfield /Somers area. Presently, Deacon Michael Torres, the chaplain at Cybulski Correction facility, is using a program which brings the word of God to those imprisoned and who are seeking to know more about God. A large contingent set up the St. Bernard's crèche, ready in time for the Parish Christmas Caroling after Immaculate Conception Mass on December 8th. St. Bernard Bereavement Committee Looking to you for help in offering service to the bereaved families in our parish. The Committee is made up of two different groups. Volunteers in one group contact the family of the deceased (after initial contact by our priests) to offer information on planning the funeral Mass. It sounds overwhelming, but it is not. We offer the family a booklet of reading choices for the Mass and hymnals for selection of music.
